Introduction

It's part two of the Adept Adverbial Adventure!

In this installment, we'll be taking a look at three similar, but slightly different adverbs. All of them involve doing things "properly" or "precisely", so this lesson is for all of our users who clean their rooms and make their beds each day.

Do it... properly?

Today's lesson will cover three adverbs (that are sometimes pre-noun adjectivals, remember those?!): ちゃんと, きちんと, and しっかり. Dictionaries, and most resources, will tell you that all three of these can be translated to "properly", but this is kind of a big mistake. When you translate these as "properly" you completely miss their individual nuances, and what's more, you risk "over-translating" them!
