~すると: Then...

Introduction

So, in the previous lesson, we covered ~とすると, which we used to make "Given X fact, then Y" type statements. We also touched on how the first と can sometimes be omitted, without a change in meaning. This time, we'll exclusively be dealing with ~とすると without と (~すると). But watch out, because this time, it will mean something a bit different...


~すると: With that/And then/That means...

    (Sentence)。すると(rest of sentence)。
    Example:
    → マイクはとびらひらいた。するとらないかもがぼんやりとあるいてはいってきた。
    ”Mike opened the door. And then, a mysterious duck came walking in.”
