Introduction

I'm very excited about this lesson. Why? Because I get to teach you how to emphasize reasons, in Japanese! Why? Because that's this lesson's topic! Why? Because... it just is! Why???!!!

なぜなら~から: Why + because—the ultimate combo

構成こうせい

  • b

    (Sentence 1)。なぜなら(ば) + (reason for sentence 1)から
    Example:
    税金ぜいきんはらうべきだ。なぜなら、 そうしないとビッグフットにおこられてしまうからだ。
"We ought to pay taxes. This is because if we don't, Bigfoot might get mad."

Yes, the very same Bigfoot that committed tax fraud back in The Depths of Devotion. Talk about hypocritical amirite?

Anyways, the main point of the なぜなら~から pattern is to put special emphasis on the reason for a certain outcome/result/opinion/etc. But before we get into the nitty gritty of that, let's take a look at the different components that comprise this grammar point!
