～おきに・～たびに: Every time (vs ごとに)

Introduction

Because I'm all-knowing and can read your mind, I know that another "every" grammar point was just what you wanted. No?

Something must be wrong with my mind-readomatic 3000...

～おきに: Like ～ごとに, but more "oki" and less "goto"

～おきに's Big, Intervallic Issue

The first thing you should know is that ～おきに derives from the verb 置おく("to place"). This is about to become extremely important, even though this grammar is pretty much never written in its kanji form.
