It's time to level up your しか~ない knowledge!
That's right, it's time for intermediate しか~ない!
Let's dive right in.
Casual (dictionary) form verbしかない
Example:
→ それを見逃すしかない。
"We have no choice but to overlook that.”
Although it's a little different from the uses of しか~ない you've already learned, this usage is very easy when it comes to its structure. This is mainly because we'll be smooshing しか and ない directly together! That's right, no negative verbs needed, just straight up しか + ない.
This is usually placed at the end of a sentence or clause, with the following structure: 「~(action)しかない。・~(action)しかない、......。」 wherein "(action)" should be a dictionary form
not conjugated; the form of a word as you would find it in a dictionary (e.g. {食|た}べる, おいしい).
