
I know what you're thinking, "Another "hard to do X" lesson???". But don't worry, I promise there are some key differences between this "hard to do" grammar point, and the ones you've learned previously.
At least, I'm pretty sure there are...
Stem form verbがたい
Example:
→ 信じがたいかもしれないけど、それは事実だ。
"It might be hard to believe, but that's the truth.”
「がたい」 is actually its own little い-adjective that we can attach as a suffix to the stem form of verbs. ~がたい is formal/written in tone, and what's more, it also has a kanji form! However, although it can be written as 難い (yep, the same kanji as 難しい), when it attaches to verb stems it's nearly always kana.
