～ては・では: That's a big "if"

Introduction

Remember 「それでは」? We used to say things like "With that" or "If that's the case"! Well, today, we'll be taking a closer look at only「では」by seeing how it attaches to other words and how it acts as a more general "if" marker. How's that sound?

～では・ては as a conditional marker... of sorts

  Example:
  → 他ほかの人ひとのものを勝手かってに使つかっては、怒おこられますよ。
  "If you use other people's things without asking, they'll get mad at you.”
