Introduction
Welcome to another fairly long, yet hopefully interesting lesson, where we'll get to put some of our new-fangled knowledge on "conditional statements" to good use! Without further ado...
I really wish that... (for me and for you)
Structure
Conditional form verb(えば)よかった
Conditional form verb(えば)いい
Example:
→ あの時買えばよかったな。
"I wish I'd bought it then."
Good news, you actually already know this! Or more like, you might... if you were paying really close attention in the initial 〜ば lesson. 👀 Well, we only briefly touched this pattern then, but now let's go a little deeper.
Whether we conjugate いい into its past tense, よかった, or not changes the meaning of this grammatical structure significantly, so we'll examine the past and present tense separately! First up, dealing with the past:
