Introduction

Why don't we have a short, fun lesson for once? Wouldn't that be nice? Especially after that crazy conditional marathon. Let's see... I wonder what I should write about.

Why don't you...?

Structure

  • b

    たら conditional form

    verb(たら)どう(だ・ですか)
    Example:
    → これたらどう
    "How about eating this?”

Today's lesson will cover two similar grammar points: one for suggestions, and one for questions. Let's start with the former, 「~たらどう?」.

~たらどう combines a たら conditional form

verb with どう, to make a fairly casual suggestion to the listener. It's also possible to make this phrase more polite by appending ですか, or more assertive by appending だ. Let's check out some examples.
