Example:
→ まだ暑いはずだ。
”It should still be hot.”
For better or for worse, there are many ways to say "maybe" or "should" in Japanese. We already looked at a couple in the form of 「かもしれない」 and 「でしょう・だろう」, but today we'll tackle the "maybe/should" head-honcho: はず.
First, let's look at its structure!
はず, is a noun, which means we'll have to adhere to all the usual noun-specific rules in order to attach it to different parts of speech:
