~方: "The Way/Manner of 〇〇"

apprentice #90
~ 5 Minutes

Introduction

You've had a lot of intense lessons recently! So I think it's time for a short and sweet one. This is going to be all about the "way of doing things", as in "The way you dance makes me want to live on Mars". Not that anyone has ever said that to me, haha... (maybe).

かた: The way of all things

Structure

  • b

    Stem form verbかた
    Example:
    → おにぎりのつくかたおしえてもらった。
”They taught me how to make onigiri.”

The kanji 方 can be read as かた or ほう, and in a general sense, means "direction" or "way". When we use 方 as a noun, we can attach it to other nouns using の and get sentences like this one:

0.1

みぎほうったよ。
