～という(noun)

About

「という」 is a combination of the quote marker と, and the verb 言いう ("to say"). ～という can be used to name, or describe a noun in detail. Whatever という attaches to becomes the descriptor of the following noun.

E.g. リンゴマンという映画えいが、知しってる？ "Do you know the movie called Apple Man?"

E.g. ピザを好すきなだけ食たべれる、というイベントに参加さんかしました。 "I participated in an event where you could eat as much pizza as you like."

～という is often shortened to ～ていう or just ～って in casual speech.

E.g. 最近さいきんHIITって運動うんどうを始はじめたよ。 "I recently started doing an exercise called "HIIT"."
