About
「という」 is a combination of the quote marker と, and the verb 言う ("to say"). ~という can be used to name, or describe a noun in detail. Whatever という attaches to becomes the descriptor of the following noun.
E.g. リンゴマンという映画、知ってる? "Do you know the movie called Apple Man?"
E.g. ピザを好きなだけ食べれる、というイベントに参加しました。 "I participated in an event where you could eat as much pizza as you like."
~という is often shortened to ~ていう or just ~って in casual speech.
E.g. 最近HIITって運動を始めたよ。 "I recently started doing an exercise called "HIIT"."
