〜によって / 〜により/ 〜による②

About

～による has three main usages: ① "Depending on X", ② "Due to/because of X", and ③ "By means of X". This entry concerns usage ②, "Due to/because of X".

E.g. 台風たいふうによる影響えいきょうで、電車でんしゃに1時間じかんの遅おくれが出でています。 "Due to the influence of the typhoon, the train is running one hour late."

による can also become によって or により (more formal).

E.g. 大雪おおゆきにより、カントリーロードは通行つうこう止どめとなっています。 "Due to heavy snow, the country roads are closed."

E.g. その事故じこによって、5人にんが怪我けがをした。 "Five people are injured due to that accident."
