で
Locational marker: in; at
About
The で particle can be used to mark a location, similarly to the に particle, but with a significant difference in usage and meaning.
"Locationに" simply marks where something exists, but "Locationで" is used to describe an action that happens at said location.
E.g.
Xはしまにある。
"X is on the island."Xはしまで暮らす。
"X lives on the island."
Because に can also mark the target of a verb, there are sentences where either で or に are possible. The difference in nuance in this type of sentence is explained in the main article.
