~みたいに ("like") can be used to create comparisons that are similar to similes in English. When the に particle is attached to みたい in this way, it indicates that it is modifying a verb or adjective.
E.g. 海はダイヤモンドみたいにキレイだ。"The ocean is beautiful like a diamond."
Usually, みたいに is directly followed by the verb/adjective it is modifying, but there may occasionally be extra information in between.
