The auxiliary verb そう(だ) can be used to express hearsay when attached to the casual form of a verb or adjective. そう(だ) requires だ to attach to nouns.
E.g. おいしいそうだ "(I heard) it's delicious"
When used for hearsay, そう is always followed by either だ or です and expresses something that the speaker has heard from a direct source.
