〜ぶり(に)

About

～ぶり is a suffix that is used in combination with time nouns (e.g. 6か月かげつ・一年いちねん etc) to express that "it's been (time noun) since...".

～ぶり has three main patterns of use:

• 

  ①～ぶりに, which attaches to a following action

E.g. 1ヶ月いっかげつぶりにお風呂ふろに入はいりました。 "I took a bath for the first time in a month."

• 

  ➁ ～ぶり(だ・です・だった etc.) which ends a sentence, or connects to the following clause

E.g. 温泉おんせんに行いくのは5ヶ月ごかげつぶりです。 "It's been five months since I've been to an onsen."

• 

  ➂ ～ぶりの, which connects to a following noun

E.g. 今週こんしゅう末まつは3週しゅう間かんぶりの女子会じょしかいだ！ "This weekend is our first girl's event in three weeks!"

～ぶり should only be used for relatively long intervals (rather than hours/minutes), and shouldn't be used with typical, "expected" intervals such as something that happens every day.
