~くせに
In spite of/even though...
About
~くせに means "in spite of" or "even though", and attaches to the casual form of い-adjectives/verbs, nouns using の, and な-adjectives using な.
~くせに has a negative, judgemental tone, and is generally used to blame/judge others or to tease/make fun of people.
E.g. うちの旦那は働いていないくせに文句ばかり言ってくる。 "Despite not having a job, all my husband does is complain."
The second half of a ~くせに sentence can be omitted when it is inferrable through context.
E.g. 本当は弱いくせに。 "Despite the fact that they're really weak (omitted: E.g. they pretend to be strong)."
In contrast to ~のに, which also means "in spite of", ~くせに sounds stronger and always carries a negative nuance.
