~を中心(にして・として) is used to indicate that a given action is performed with X at its centre, that X is central to the existence of Y, or that X is the main component within a given category.
~を中心 attaches to nouns, and is most commonly used in polite spoken, or written/formal contexts.
E.g. 今月は、読解を中心に勉強する予定です。 "This month, my plan is to study with a focus on reading."
E.g. この町は観光を中心に発達してきました。 "This town has been developed around tourism."
「(Noun)を中心に(して)」 can be used to link to a following action. して is optional, and adds a slightly more written tone. ~を中心にした is used to connect to a following noun.
E.g. 今月は読解を中心にして勉強する予定です。 "This month my plan is to study with a focus on reading."
「(Noun)を中心として」 can also be used to link to a following action. 「(Noun)を中心とした」 and 「(Noun)を中心とする」 can be used to connect to a following noun.
E.g. 赤味噌は、中部地方を中心として多くの地域で使われている。 "Red miso is used in many different regions (of Japan), mainly in the Chubu area."
E.g. 今日は血液型による性格の違いを中心とした話をしたいと思います。 "Today I'd like to have a discussion that revolves around how personalities can differ based on blood type."
