ため is a noun that means "advantage/purpose/benefit/consequence/regarding", and has two main usages: "in order to..." and "due to...".

ため can take an optional に particle for its "in order to" usage, which puts further emphasis on the goal indicated by ため. The use of に is not as common for ため's "due to" usage.

ため(に) can attach to a noun, verb, い-adjective, or な-adjective.

E.g. 友達ともだちを作つくるために、クラブに入はいった。 "I joined the club to make friends."
