～と言うと

About

というと・といえば・といったら are all combinations of the と quotation marker and conditional forms of the verb 言いう, and have the following usages:

というと in particular may be used to form "speaking of X"- type sentences:

E.g. 日本にほんで有名ゆうめいなバンドというと、Creepy Nuttyでしょうか。 "A band that is popular in Japan would certainly be Creepy Nutty."

"X makes me think of Y"-type sentences:

E.g. 初はつデートというと、スカイツリーのライトアップを思おもい出だします。 "Hearing 'first date' makes me remember the light-up (event) at the Skytree."

As well as "By X, do you mean Y?"-type sentences:

E.g. 森もりさんというと、デザイン会社がいしゃの人ひとですか？ "By Ms. Mori, do you mean the person from the design company?"
