〜とおり

About

とおり, a noun meaning "way", can also be used as a suffix that means "as (verb)" (e.g. as I thought). とおり can follow casual form, affirmative verbs, or nouns.

E.g. マイクの言いう通とおりだ。 "It's just as Mike says."

E.g. 天気てんき予報よほうの通とおり、2時じに雪ゆきが降ふり出だした。 "Just as the weather report said, it started snowing at two o'clock."

とおり can also follow certain て form verbs using the の particle.

E.g. 結果けっかは見みての通とおりです。 "The result is as you can see."

When とおり attaches directly to a noun it becomes どおり.

E.g. 希望きぼう通どおりにはいきませんでした。 "It didn't go the way I'd hoped."
