About
とおり, a noun meaning "way", can also be used as a suffix that means "as (verb)" (e.g. as I thought). とおり can follow casual form, affirmative verbs, or nouns.
E.g. マイクの言う通りだ。 "It's just as Mike says."
E.g. 天気予報の通り、2時に雪が降り出した。 "Just as the weather report said, it started snowing at two o'clock."
とおり can also follow certain て form verbs using the の particle.
E.g. 結果は見ての通りです。 "The result is as you can see."
When attaching とおり to nouns, you can do so with the の particle. Otherwise, when とおり attaches directly to a noun, it becomes どおり.
E.g. 天気予報の通り、2時に雪が降り出した。 "Just as the weather report said, it started snowing at two o'clock."
E.g. 希望通りにはいきませんでした。 "It didn't go the way I'd hoped."
