もっとも

About

もっとも means "although; that being said", and generally comes at the start of a sentence.

もっとも is stiff, and doesn't see much use in casual conversation.

もっとも sentences often end with a "but" conjunction such as が or けど.

E.g. トランペットを5年ねん弾ひいています。もっとも、弾ひけるのは３曲きょくだけです。 "I've played the trumpet for five years. Although, I can only play three songs."

E.g. スウェーデン語ごがしゃべれます。もっとも、あいさつだけですが。 "I can speak Swedish. Although, I only know greetings."
