次第（しだい）②

About

次第しだい is a noun/suffix that means can mean both "as soon as" and "depending on".

When 次第しだい means "depending on" it can only attach to nouns, and is generally followed by だ (or one of its variants).

This usage of 次第しだい often comes at the end of a sentence.

E.g. どこまで上手うまくなれるかは自分じぶん次第しだいだ。

"How good you can get depends on you."

If 次第しだい comes in the middle of a sentence, だ's て form (で) will be employed instead:

E.g. ビアガーデンは、天気てんき次第しだいで中止ちゅうしになることもあります。

"The beer garden may sometimes be closed depending on the weather."
