~は~(が・けど)~は......
Contrasting statements
About
The ~は~が・けど~は..... pattern is used to create a contrasting statement about two things. To use this pattern, simply place the two things that you'd like to contrast between before each は, creating two separate topics, like so:
E.g. アニメは好きだけど、あの番組は好きじゃない。
"I like anime, but I don't like that show."
The first は establishes our primary topic, and the second は establishes our second, contrasting topic. We can then make any remark we wish to about them. We use a contraction such as が or けど in the middle to tie them together.
It is also possible to use が instead of either は in this pattern, but it will change the emphasis of the statement (が emphasizes what comes before it).
