About
な-adjectives are one of the two types of adjectives in Japanese. な-adjectives are very similar to nouns, and unlike い-adjectives, may be followed by だ.
The past tense of な-adjectives is identical to the past tense of nouns.
For the negative past tense casual (or "plain" form) of a な-adjective, simply add じゃなかった, or ではなかった for formal speech.

To create a polite negative past tense な-adjective, add です to じゃなかった to get じゃなかったです. じゃなかったです may be replaced with ではなかったです to increase formality.

It is also possible to attach じゃありませんでした・ではありませんでした instead. This is the most polite negative past pattern.

Some な-adjectives end in い and therefore may appear to be い-adjectives (e.g. きれい), however, they still conjugate as な-adjectives.
For a negative past tense な-adjective, add じゃなかった or ではなかった for formal speech.
For the polite negative past tense, add じゃなかったです or ではなかったです for formal speech.
Adding じゃありませんでした and ではありませんでした are also possible, and among all negative past patterns, it is considered the most polite.
