自分じぶん, meaning "self", can be used in many different ways: as a first, second, or third person-pronoun, or as a general sense of "self".

The use of 自分じぶん as a first-person pronoun ("I" etc.) sounds somewhat self-absorbed, and/or distant.

The use of 自分じぶん as a second-person pronoun ("you") is specific to the Kansai dialect.

The use of 自分じぶん as a third-person pronoun ("herself/himself" etc.) is very common and has no connotations.
