Adept adverbs ④: つい: “Unintentionally” and ついに: “Finally”

Introduction

I know what you're thinking: "Another installment of Adept adverb adventures already? What, has Christmas come early???"

Why, yes, Christmas has come early, and it has blessed us with two grammatical wonders: つい, and ついに. What makes these adverbs so wonderful? Read on to find out!


つい: I'm just always carelessly devouring XL pepperoni pies

    つい(rest of sentence)

    (Start of sentence)つい(rest of sentence)

    Example:
    → ピザをるとついべてしまう。
    "If I see pizza I can't help but eat it."

つい is an adverb that describes the following verb as something that happens "unconsciously", "absentmindedly", or "by mistake". Like when you "accidentally" help your roommate finish off their leftovers.
