About

ついに is an adverb derived from つい ("end; final"), and means "finally; in the end".

E.g. 三年間さんねんかん練習れんしゅうしてきて、ついにこの大会たいかい優勝ゆうしょうすることができました! "After three years of practice, we finally managed to win this tournament!"

E.g. 英語えいご勉強べんきょう数年すうねん頑張がんばったけど、ついに海外かいがいくことをあきらめた。 "I tried my best to study English for a few years, but in the end, I gave up on going abroad."

ついに should only be used for events that are long-awaited or require time/effort.
