Introduction

I realized that you don't know how to say "heart-shaped" or "hairstyle" in Japanese yet, so, welcome to a grammar lesson that's all about shapes and forms.

Time to learn all about かた! Uh, I mean, がた. Uhh, I mean けい. Ah, no. すがた... maybe?


かた・けい: Shapes, moulds, patterns, and styles

    Example:
    かみがたえたの?
    ”Did you change your hairstyle?”

For our lesson today, we'll be looking at かた, which can be used as both a standalone noun and a suffix.

かた + ~がた: All shapes and sizes

Let's start off with かた on its own, as a plain old noun that means "model; type; mould".
