Introduction

Today's lesson is all about things happening in the middle of something. Like if you were busy eating a nice burrito, and someone interrupted you with a grammar question. Or, if you were just getting acquainted with some tacos, and someone interrupted you with a grammar question. Orーyeah, I already ate, why'd you ask?

最中さいちゅうに:No, it's not just for food!

構成こうせい

  • b

    Verb(ている)最中さいちゅうに......

  • b

    Nounの最中さいちゅうに......

    Example:
    → タコスをべている最中さいちゅう電話でんわった。
"I was in the middle of eating tacos when the phone rang.”

最中さいちゅうに is used to express that "X happens in the middle of Y". However, depending on the context of our sentence, it's sometimes more appropriate to translate 最中さいちゅうに as "during" or "while" instead. (Just keep in mind that 〜最中さいちゅうに denotes an action as happening "in the middle of" another!)
