Introduction

Even though people say this grammar point is difficult, it's honestly quite simple!

ーThat is today's grammar. Ready? Ready???

GO!

〜とっても: Even if you say I'm cute, I'll never believe you :') (so keep saying it)

構成こうせい

  • b

    Verb/い-adjectiveっても

  • b

    な-adjective/noun(だ)っても

    Example:
    日本食にほんしょくきだってっても、ラーメンとか唐揚からあげしかべない。
"Though I say I like Japanese food, I only eat ramen and karaage.”

The 〜とっても pattern (most commonly written in kana alone) is all about clarification. We say (or someone else says) something, and then we say "Even though (I/someone) said X, actually Y".
