Introduction

Wait, you can use そう for more than just observations and hearsay??? Whatttt?!

That's right, you're about to learn another usage of your favorite grammar point that you definitely didn't forget about: そう.

Let's get to it!

~そうにない・そうもない: Doesn't seem likely

構成こうせい

  • b

    Verb stemそうにない

  • b

    Verb stemそうもない
    Example:
    → このカビゴン、うごそうにないけど、どうしよう。
"This Snorlax doesn't look like it's going to move, what should we do?”

Today's lesson will be all about observing things and making deductions so... make sure your observational powers are feeling up to snuff!

The そうにない・そうもない patterns combine the observational そう ("seems like") with the に or も particle, and ない ("isn't"). We can attach either pattern to any stem form

verb to express "It doesn't seem like (verb) is going to happen", or that "X is showing no signs of doing Y".
