そうもない /そうにない / そうにもない

Seems unlikely to

About

The そうにない・そうもない patterns are used to describe that "it seems unlikely that X will do Y".

E.g. この天気てんきだとそうにない。 "With that weather, it doesn't look like (we'll) be able to go."

E.g. すぐわりそうもないので、さきはじめていてください。 "It seems very unlikely that (we'll) finish soon, so please go ahead and start."

E.g. すごくいそがしそうだし、はなしいてくれそうにもない。 "They seem super busy, and it seems really unlikely that they'll listen what I have to say."

そうにない is a combination of the observational そう, the に particle, and ない ("isn't").

そうもない is a combination of the observational そう, the も particle, and ない ("isn't").

Compared to そうにない, そうもない sounds more certain: "It seems very unlikely that X will happen".

~そうにもない is also possible and has the same level of certainty as ~そうもない.

Compared to ~なさそう, そうにない・そうもない may only attach to verb stem forms, sounds more certain + subjective, and focuses more on the future.
