Introduction

Heya! Welcome to this short and sweet lesson about the grammar point 「だらけ」. I hope you're having a nice day so far, and that this lesson only makes it better!

What do you mean, "Why am I being so nice?"?

~だらけ: We're covered in something negative!

構成こうせい

  • b

    (Noun)だらけ
    Example:
    部屋へやはいると、ゆかどろだらけだった。
"They entered, and the floor was covered in mud.”

Meet the suffix, だらけ, which when combined with a noun, expresses that something "is covered in/full of/surrounded by" said noun!

I would say that's really all there is to it, but there is one important thing to note!

99% of the time, だらけ is used in negative, or at least neutral, statements. So think "Covered in mud" (だらけ likes this), vs "Filled with amazing news" (だらけ isn't so sure about this). This isn't to say that だらけ can't be used in positive contexts, it's just rarer.
