～ことになっている: The "has been decided" lesson

This lesson should be mostly a review, as it really only adds a bit of spice to a grammar pattern you learned back in the Depths of Devotion. Let's get into it!

～ことになっている: The way things are

構成こうせい

  Present tense casual form verbことになっている

• 

  ～てもいいことになっている
  Example:
  → 金曜日きんようびは私服しふくを着きてもいいことになっている。
  "(You) may wear plain clothes on Fridays.”

Back in the Depths of Devotion, you learned all about how we can express decisions using ～にする and ～になる. Hopefully, you remember that ～になる is specifically for decisions made by someone other than the speaker. We also built upon ～になる by adding こと to form ～ことになる, which we can attach to verbs to say that "X action has been decided".
