Another lesson, another chance to make a joke at my own expense.
But will I do it?
Nounをもとに(して)
Example:
→ 自分の人生をもとにして、あの本を書いたらしいよ。
"Apparently, they wrote that book based on their own life.”
「Xは~を素材・基本・基準・参考にして、作った・書いた」、と言いたい時に使われる表現。
The ~をもとに(して) pattern is used to describe that something was made/written/formed/etc. based on X noun. ~をもとに(して) is used for newly created things, and indicates that they were made with inspiration from the attached noun. Note that this is "new" as in, something that does not copy the source material; something fresh!
