〜をもとに（して）

About

The ～をもとに(して) pattern is used to describe that something was made/written/formed/etc., "based on X".

～をもとに(して) is most commonly used for newly created things, and attaches to nouns.

～をもとに can be used with or without attaching して. 「をもとに」 and 「をもとにして」 are essentially interchangeable, with 「をもとに」 being slightly more casual in tone.

～をもとに(して) can be used in casual, polite, and formal situations.

E.g. この映画えいがは、実話じつわをもとに作つくられている。 "This movie was made based on a true story."

E.g. ネットの口くちコミをもとに、地域ちいきのご飯屋はんやさんのガイドブックを作つくった。 "(I) made a guidebook for local restaurants based on online reviews."

E.g. 私わたしたちは、日本にほんでの経験けいけんをもとにして、新あたらしいビジネスを始はじめました。 "We started a new business based on our experience in Japan."
