毎~・~ごとに: "Every..."

Introduction

Every single time I write one of these lessons, I think to myself, "I'm hungry."
And that's a fact.

Today we'll cover two different ways to say "every... " or "whenever...". I mean, haven't you been wondering how to say "every morning I eat a blueberry bagel" in Japanese?

Every morning, a blueberry bagel

I should start things off by saying that although we'll be learning two different grammar points today, they actually use the same kanji:

まい

ごと

However, ごとに is almost always written in kana, so no need to worry about mixing the two up. What is worth noting though is that both of them may use the same kanji, but they don't mean the exact same thing! As you'll notice soon, they actually both function quite differently (although yes, you could say they are in the same grammatical "family").
