やる and さしあげる: Advanced giving

Introduction

So back in the Fledgling Forest, you encountered giving and receiving in Japanese, using the verbs あげる, くれる, and もらう. Since it's been a little while, we're going to do a quick review of how these bad boys work, and then we'll introduce two new, advanced giving verbs. Sound good? Good!


Allow me to give you a review of giving and receiving

If you remember your Fledgeling Forest lesson on the topic, you'll remember that in Japanese, verbs of giving and receiving move in specific directions. We can use these directions to figure out who is giving and/or receiving! For example:

マイクにりんごをあげた

The giving verb あげる always moves away from the speaker (or their "group"), but the giving verb くれる on the other hand...
