以上・以下・以外: "More than/Less than..."

apprentice #99
~ 5 Minutes

Introduction

By the end of this lesson, you'll be able to say "IT'S OVER 8000!!!". 🤩

Also, "Oh, it's under 10." 🤨

And also, "Anything but this." 😫

How's that for a hook?

Over, under, and aside from: The "以 words"

Structure

  • b

    Noun(e.g. amount/number/counter)以上いじょう以下いか
    Example:
    → 10ドル以上いじょうのものはえない。
”I can't buy anything worth more than 10 dollars."

Today, we'll be looking at three words: 以上いじょう "more than", 以下いか "less than", and 以外いがい "other than". Learning how to use each of them is pretty easy, so I think you'll have them down in less than a minute. Or, alternatively, more than 30 seconds. Anything other than 10 minutes is good to be honest. That's my least favorite unit of time.
