ますます

About

ますます (or 益々ますます in kanji) is an adverb that describes that something is becoming "more and more X" or "less and less Y". ますます has no attachment rules, but should precede whatever is "increasing/decreasing" in the sentence.

E.g. 来週らいしゅうの天気てんきはますます悪わるくなりそうだ。 "Next week's weather seems to be getting worse and worse."

E.g. 買かい物ものをしているとますますお腹なかが空すいてくる。 "Shopping makes me more and more hungry."

ますます is also commonly used in many formal set phrases, such as those at the start/end of letters and emails.

E.g. 益々ますますのご活躍かつやくとご多幸たこうをお祈いのり申もうし上あげます。 "Wishing you happiness and continued success in your endevours."
