～のは～の方だ

About

方ほう may be added to 〜のは〜だ ("It's X that is Y") to form the 「～のは～のほうだ」 pattern when there are two or more options in a given category, and the speaker wants to single one of them out. This usage of 方ほう is similar to "one" in English (E.g. "Mike is the cool one").

E.g. 先さきにゴールしたのは私わたしの方ほうです。 "I'm the one who scored first."

のは can directly follow verbs/い-adjectives, or attach to nouns/な-adjectives using な. 方ほう must be preceded by 「(noun)の」 .
