〜と違って

About

The と particle and the て form of the verb 違ちがう can be combined to form the ～と違ちがって pattern.

～と違ちがって is used to express "unlike/dissimilar to X...".

～と違ちがって may be preceded by nouns, or nominalized verbs/adjectives. Usually, verbs/adjectives that come before と違ちがって are nominalized using の rather than こと.

E.g. 私わたしはマイクと違ちがってジェットコースターが苦手にがてだ。 "Unlike Mike, I'm not good with rollercoasters."

E.g. 家いえで働はたらくのと違ちがって、会社かいしゃに行いくのはガソリン代だいがかかる。 "Unlike working from home, going to the office costs gas money."
