About

~となると is slightly formal in tone and roughly translates to "if it comes to X/if Y were to be the case" in English.

The ~となると pattern is used to describe that if a given situation becomes X, or changes to Y, Z change will happen. It puts particular emphasis on the resulting change.

~となると may be written as ~となれば・~となったら.

~となると may attach to い-adjectives, verbs, な-adjectives, and nouns.

E.g. 予算よさん変更へんこうするとなると、チーム編成へんせいから変更へんこうしなくてはいけなくなる。 "If (we) end up changing the budget, we'll have to start by restructuring the team."

E.g. そこまでむずかしいとなると小学生しょうがくせいには無理むりだとおもいます。 "If it were to be that hard, I think it would be too much for an elementary school student."
