〜てほしいものだ

About

～てほしいもの combines a て form verb, ほしい, and もの, and can be used to create emphatic "want (someone else to) do X" statements.

～てほしいもの statements shouldn't be said directly to the person we want to do X.

E.g. 話はなしている時ときぐらい、スマホを置おいてほしいものだ。 "I'd love for them to put their phone down when I'm speaking, at the very least."

E.g. 弁当べんとう箱ばこぐらい自分じぶんで洗あらってほしいものだ。 "I really wish they'd wash their bento box on your own."

～ないでほしいもの and ～てほしくないもの can be used for negative statements.

E.g. E.g. 地盤じばんも緩ゆるくなっているので、これ以上いじょう雨あめが続つづいてほしくないものです。 "The ground has already loosened, so I really hope it doesn’t keep raining any longer."

E.g. 雨あめが降ふっている時ときに、外そとで待またせないでほしいものですね。 "It'd be really nice for them to not make us wait outside when it's raining, hey.

～てほしいもの is literary in tone, and is most commonly found in casual/polite written dialogue.
