な-adjectives
Na-adjectives
About
な-adjectives are one of the two types of adjectives in Japanese. な-adjectives are very similar to nouns, and unlike い-adjectives, may be followed by だ.
In order to attach a な-adjective to a noun, you must place な in between (e.g. 元気な声 "energetic voice"). な-adjectives can also take the connective で (the て form of だ), allowing them to connect clauses and other descriptors together.
Some な-adjectives end in い and therefore may appear to be い-adjectives (e.g. きれい). However, these are exceptional cases and can be easily memorized.
All な-adjectives can be made more polite by adding です.
