など is a particle that can be used to form a non-exhaustive list, where it is implied that items are being left un-listed.
Because など can only be used once per sentence や is used in combination with など to list more than one item.
In sentences with both や and など, など should follow the final item listed. The following patterns are possible:
(item 1)や(item 2)や(item 3)など...
(item 1)や(item 2)など...
(item1)など...
や and など sound fairly formal, and are mainly used in formal spoken situations, or written Japanese.
