The ～ようにする pattern combines ように with the verb する, and is used to express one's efforts to achieve a certain result or work towards a certain goal.
～ようにする can be combined with casual form verbs in their affirmative or negative form, as well as with potential form verbs.
E.g. 次回はもっとスムーズに行くようにします。 "I'll make sure that next time goes more smoothly. "
～ようにする means "To try to achieve X"
～ようにする attaches to casual form verbs
