~がち
Tend to/often... (negative tendancy/trend)
About
がち is a suffix that indicates a negative tendency or trend.
がち can attach to a verb's stem form, or directly to a noun.
E.g. 子供の頃は病気がちだったけど、今はとても元気だ。 "I often got sick as a child, but now I'm very healthy."
がち can also be used as a な-adjective. In this case, it attaches to a noun using either な or の.
E.g. これは新人にはありがちなミスだから、気をつけてね。 "New people often make this mistake, so be careful."
がち statements can become the topic of a sentence by attaching to は using なの.
E.g. 新しい家を買うときに見落としがちなのは、日当たりがいいかどうかだ。 "What tends to be overlooked when buying a new house, is whether or not it gets sunlight."
がち can be used adverbially with the words 遠慮・ためらい・伏目. For this usage, がち is followed by the に particle.
E.g. ためらいがちに、カフェに入った。 "They uncertainly entered the cafe."
